EMPLOYERS
Your Responsibilities As An Employer
To be positive and supportive of your trainee. Encourage your trainee to ask questions.
Advise other work colleagues about the program and encourage them to help the trainee.
Complete the Pre-Assessment checklist (where provided) for each competency with the trainee
prior to the assessment date.
Be present at each assessment – your input is important to ensure an accurate
and fair assessment (or arrange for another suitable person to attend), you also
need to regularly check on your trainee’s progress (at least weekly).
Ensure the trainee is provided with adequate work time to complete the assigned
training tasks as required by the Structured Training Withdrawal Record (Please see

Part Time The trainee must be withdrawn from routine work duties for a minimum of 1.5 hours per week, averaged over a four week cycle.
The Registered Training Organisation must ensure that employers comply with this requirement, any non-compliance by employers in allowing time release for their trainees should be brought to the attention of an Apprenticeship Field Officer for investigation.
Contact the Workplace Trainer & Assessor if you have any queries or problems regarding training and assessment.
Advise the Workplace Trainer & Assessor as soon as possible if the trainee resigns or withdraws from the course.
You must provide a safe workplace for the trainee, and show that you understand and
practice occupational health and safety practices.
You must adhere to the provisions of equal opportunity legislation and anti-discrimination legislation.
You must be able to demonstrate that a suitably qualified person will supervise the
trainee and that the on-the-job training you provide will enable the trainee to become a competent worker.

The above mentioned hours should be based on a four week cycle.
